Day two preview

There’s an excellent card of double-in World Grand Prix dust-ups from Leicester’s Morningside Arena on Monday night and Nathan Aspinall’s clash with Krzysztof Ratajski is an interesting betting heat.

The Asp has the form in the book and his ability has carried him to two World Championship semi-finals. However, those were in 2019 and 2020 and based on what we have seen in 2021 it’s hard to see why the Stockport man is rated the favourite for this clash.

Aspinall is down in 28th place in terms of three-dart averages on the Pro Tour this term, while Ratajski is inside the top ten.

The problem for the Polish Eagle was that he struggled to produce his floor form on the big stage. However, quarter-final runs at the UK Open and World Championship and a semi-final effort at the Matchplay in July have put that notion to bed.

A semi-final run in the recent Super Series 6 event shows that the Polish Eagle is flying high and he looks a fair bet at even-money.

Vincent van der Voort is a solid performer when on-song and he may have Gabriel Clemens' measure in the first round.

The Dutch Destroyer has been pretty consistent on tour this term, with a few quarter-final and semi-final appearances on his card and he had a decent run to the fourth round of the World Championship at the end of last year.

Double trouble can sometimes hinder Van der Voort and this format probably wouldn’t be his preferred. However, the Purmerend arrowsmith has made a quarter-final in this event in the past.

The wind seems to have gone out of Clemens’ sails and the German Giant’s finishing can be very erratic. Clemens was hammered in the first-round of the World Matchplay in July, he hasn’t been anywhere near his best in recent Players Championship events and his efforts for Germany in the World Cup last month were pretty poor.

The double-start format is likely to have a big impact in this match and it’s possible that Van der Voort may just hold things together the better.
