Thursday's quarter-finals preview

Ian White and Chris Dobey produced excellent performances to beat seeded rivals Michael Smith and Gary Anderson in the second round of the BoyleSports World Grand Prix but there's room for only one of those chuckers in the semi-finals at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

White romped past Smith 3-1, averaging 86.29 and hitting six maximums on the way. It could easily have been 3-0 to the Stoke thrower given that he missed darts to win the opening set.

Diamond was a model of consistency against Bully Boy, as he was when winning six legs on the bounce to beat Joe Cullen in his opening double-in contest.

White hasn't always been able to reproduce his superb form on the floor in major tournaments but the atmosphere in Dublin is more World Athletics Championships in Doha than Ally Pally at Christmas so it is unlikely to hinder White's chances.

Dobey is a promising player and will no doubt be buoyed by his win over Anderson but it's possible his chances are being overrated by the layers after that headline-grabbing result.

It is 6-5 that Diamond can give Dobey a 1.5-set start on the handicap, effectively a bet on White to win 3-0 or 3-1, and that looks a tempting price.

Mervyn King has produced superb darts to see off Dimitri van den Bergh and James Wade in Dublin and his reward is a clash with Michael van Gerwen.

MVG was lucky not to be put away by Jamie Hughes in the opening round but he upped his average by ten points to beat Jeffrey de Zwaan 3-0 in round two.

The Green Machine is a 1-7 shot to play either White or Dobey in the semis while it's 11-2 that King can cause an upset.

Bet365 go 4-6 about King winning at least one set while those fancying a 3-0 Van Gerwen win can take 13-10 with Betfred and BoyleSports.
