Tournament preview
The BoyleSports Grand Slam of Darts kicks off in Coventry and Gerwyn Price will begin his bid to land the event for a third successive time.
Unfortunately, there will be only two BDO representatives this year, after the demise of the organisation, but there still look to be some tasty betting opportunities.
Price is the market leader at 4-1, with Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright behind the Iceman at 9-2.
The chances of those chuckers are respected but it could pay to look further down the betting with 40-1 shot Joe Cullen.
Cullen is a capable performer, who perhaps hasn't always been the most consistent, particularly in the big-stage events.
However, there's been a lot to like about Rockstar's performances in recent weeks and he got his just rewards when landing the International Darts Open last month.
That win on the European Tour was backed up with a victory at last week's Winter Series events and those results point to a good showing in Coventry.
Cullen is averaging 95.24 across 71 matches on the Pro Tour this term, which is a solid return, but the Bradford man still leaves the impression that there is improvement to come.
Rockstar is housed in Group A alongside Van Gerwen, Gabriel Clemens and Adam Hunt and that's a section that he has every chance of progressing from.
MVG isn't anywhere near his best, as ante-post quotes of 9-2 suggest and the Bradford boy should have the edge on both Clemens and Hunt.
A runner-up spot is the worst Cullen should be aiming for and a last-16 task against any of the Group B line-up of Gary Anderson, Simon Whitlock, Ryan Searle and Adam Gawlas doesn't look insurmountable.
Rockstar has a level that is capable of troubling anyone in the game and that makes him an attractive play at big prices.
Another 40-1 poke who could outrun those odds is Damon Heta.
The Aussie has been making waves during his short time on the PDC Tour and he could be ready to shake up his Group F rivals.
James Wade heads a competitive section also containing Glen Durrant and Jermaine Wattimena. All four players have realistic hopes of progressing from the round-robin stage but Heta's price looks to underestimate his chances.
The Heat has played 50 matches on the Pro Tour this term and has recorded a three-dart average of 96.39. Those numbers make him a PDC top-ten performer, above all of his section rivals, and there doesn't seem any reason why he won't reproduce that level here.
The Aussie performed brilliantly under maximum pressure in the World Cup of Darts last month and he looks set for another strong showing.
