Glen Durrant reached the semi-finals on his Betfred World Matchplay debut last year and not even world champion Peter Wright may stop his title charge in Milton Keynes this year.

Durrant was in electric form during a round-one rout of Jeffrey de Zwaan on Sunday, averaging 106.93 and hitting six 180s in just 13 legs.

The three-time BDO world champion's dominance could have been even greater had he not missed 15 shots at doubles.

His second-round opponent Wright was staring down the barrel of an early exit at 8-5 down to Jose de Sousa until he ditched his glasses to rattle off five straight legs and spare his blushes.

World champion Wright has been in great form this month, winning one Summer Series event and reaching a final of another in early July, and he has a fantastic record against Durrant.

However, at 1-2 he is extremely short to beat a player of Durrant's ability, especially given how well the Middlesbrough man played against De Zwaan.

Back Durrant with a 2.5-leg start on the handicap.

The other confirmed matches include Daryl Gurney, semi-finalist in 2017 & 2019, taking on Vincent van der Voort and two-time world champion Adrian Lewis squaring off with Gerwyn Price's conqueror Danny Noppert.
