The inaugural Betfred Women's World Matchplay looks like a straight scrap between Lisa Ashton and Fallon Sherrock, and the Lancashire Rose can come out on top in her home county.

Eight players go to post for this one-day bonanza at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and everything points to the top two seeds meeting in the final.

There have been 12 Women's Series events on the PDC schedule so far - Ashton has won seven of those, Sherrock another three.

Sherrock's firepower is there for all to see – she has hit 32 more 180s than anyone else – but consistency has been lacking this year and that's what stands Ashton apart.

The four-time BDO world champ tops the Women's Series averages this year having cleared a 90 average on eight separate occasions. She also chucked in a ton-plus in one game, whitewashing Sharon Godbeer with 13, 18, 15 and 14-dart legs.

The Queen of the Palace has also produced some good numbers – she too cleared 100 once, against Aileen de Graf, and has beaten Darius Labanauskas at the Nordic Masters before averaging 89 in defeat to Michael Smith.

These two are a cut above the field, bookmakers are struggling to call it, but Ashton's steadier style may well be enough.
