Welsh Fire v Northern Superchargers preview

Welsh Fire Men and Women have lost all ten of their combined matches in The Hundred this season so they will be hoping for a change of fortune in their fixtures against Northern Superchargers in Cardiff.

The Fire Men have suffered six straight defeats and they lost three wickets for one run in the first seven balls of their last home game against Southern Brave on Monday.

The Brave eased to a nine-wicket victory at Sophia Gardens before the Fire's top order crumbled against in-form London Spirit at Lord's two days later and the Superchargers should be confident of taking early wickets.

So many of the Welsh Fire batters are bereft of confidence but Leus du Plooy is worth backing to top-score, having impressed this week in his first two appearances of the season.

Du Plooy's 37 from number six was the Fire's highest individual score against the Brave on Monday and at Lord's on Wednesday he made 30 off 18 balls – eclipsed only by Ben Duckett's 34.

The Superchargers Men are set to miss out on the end-of-season playoffs but their women's side are still in the hunt for a top-three finish after chasing down 161 to beat Manchester Originals last time out.

South Africa opener Laura Wolvaardt scored a brilliant unbeaten 90, from just 49 deliveries, and she should relish a crack at the Welsh Fire bowlers.

Wolvaardt's previous three Hundred innings produced scores of 32, 24 not out and 49 and she is worth backing to make at least 22 at Sophia Gardens.
