Sydney Sixers v Hobart Hurricanes preview

Sydney Sixers have reached the last three Big Bash League finals, winning two of them, but their poor start to the 2022-23 campaign could be extended with a defeat to Hobart Hurricanes.

The Sixers are short of in-form batters after slipping to 51-run and 38-run defeats to Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers, who beat them in last season's final and bowled them out for just 117 on Saturday.

That lack of runscoring potential leaves them vulnerable against a Hurricanes side packed with prolific BBL batters such as Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott and D'Arcy Short.

Hobart's big-hitting middle-order includes Pakistan all-rounders Shadab Khan and Asif Ali, New Zealand's Jimmy Neesham and Australia powerhouse Tim David, who scored an unbeaten 46 in an eight-run win over the Scorchers last time out.

Unheralded spinner Patrick Dooley derailed Perth's run-chase with 4-16 off his four overs and the Hurricanes, with shrewd T20 coach Ricky Ponting at the helm, can enhance their title credentials with a victory over the Sixers.
