Saturday's Big Bash preview
Melbourne Renegades won a feisty Big Bash derby against Melbourne Stars by 33 runs on January 3 and they are favourites to complete a double over their city rivals on Saturday morning.
The Renegades comfortably defended a target of 142 in the first derby of the season with paceman Tom Rogers taking 5-16, including the wicket of his namesake, Stars opener Thomas Rogers, bowled for one.
It was a game to forget for the opening batters as Joe Clarke of the Stars and Sam Harper of the Renegades were both dismissed first ball – a third duck in four innings for Harper.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has emerged from his slump in fine style, however, swatting 89 off 48 balls against Hobart Hurricanes at the Marvel Stadium, venue for Saturday's Melbourne derby, and following up with 63 off 36, batting at number three, against Adelaide Strikers.
Harper can extend his fine run against a Stars side still struggling near the foot of the standings despite a nine-wicket win over the Strikers on Thursday.
Adelaide, bowled out for just 108 in that rout, are 4-6 to bounce back with a home victory against bottom-of-the-table Brisbane Heat in Saturday's first game.
