Punjab Kings won their first IPL meeting of the season against Rajasthan Royals by four runs after a high-scoring thriller in which rival captains KL Rahul (91) and Sanju Samson (119) played starring roles.

Samson was named man of the match for his 63-ball assault on the Punjab bowlers and he can help the Royals avenge that defeat in Dubai.

The Royals have bolstered their squad with in-form England star Liam Livingstone and South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, who is number-one in the ICC's Twenty20 bowling rankings.

Punjab remain hugely reliant on opener Rahul, who has arrived straight from India's Test series in England, and they resume the IPL under pressure after five defeats in their first eight games.
