Match preview

England Women kept alive their slender hopes of retaining the World Cup with a vital victory over India and they face another must-win contest against tournament hosts New Zealand.

After losing their first three matches of the league stage against Australia, South Africa and the West Indies, England cannot afford any more slip-ups and the same goes for New Zealand.

They have struggled to live up to pre-tournament billing as the biggest threats to powerhouses Australia, losing three of their five games, and bookmakers expect a tight contest in Auckland, where England are 11-10 to upset the home side.

Things have not gone smoothly for New Zealand but they do have plenty of in-form batters. Sophie Devine scored 108 and 93 in the defeats to the Windies and South Africa while Amy Satterthwaite scored 75 against India and Suzie Bates struck an unbeaten 79 against Bangladesh.

Nat Sciver made a brilliant century in England's opening defeat to Australia but big scores have eluded their batters since then and New Zealand are worth backing to provide the highest individual score of the match.
