Monday preview

Scotland were out of their depth in the Super 12 phase of last year's World Cup, losing all five of their matches, but in the first round they shone and they will be looking to defy the odds in Australia this month.

But qualifying for the Super 12 stage could be much tougher this time around with Scotland joined by the West Indies, Ireland and Zimbabwe in Group B.

The under-performing Windies are Scotland's first opponents and although Shane Burger's men will be up against it, there is one player they can generally rely on at the crease.

Richie Berrington has replaced the retired Kyle Coetzer as Scotland captain since the last World Cup and he could lead by example.

Berrington was his country's top runscorer in the tournament in Oman and United Arab Emirates last year, striking 177 in eight matches.

He was also his team's standout player in their recent warm-up with the Netherlands, scoring 41 off 29 balls, and can top score against the Windies.

Later in the day, Zimbabwe and Ireland lock horns in the other match in Group B in Hobart. The Irish are marginal favourites to win at 4-5 with Zimbabwe at evens.
