Stars v Renegades preview

Both the Stars and the Renegades have work to do as the Big Bash season nears its halfway point and there is little to split the two teams in Tuesday's Melbourne derby at the MCG.

The Renegades started the campaign with three wins on the spin but they have since suffered four straight defeats, including a narrow New Year's Day defeat to the Perth Scorchers.

After slumping to three heavy defeats on the spin, the Stars got their season back on track against the Adelaide Strikers last time out.

Neither team looks particularly trustworthy in this pick'em contest. Instead, the best bet could be to take Renegades batsman Aaron Finch to top-score for his side.

Finch has been the one bright spark in the Gades' batting line-up this season, scoring 236 runs at an average of 47.20, including 65 against the Scorchers last time out.

Renegades captain and opening batsman Nic Maddinson was stretchered off with a serious knee injury against Perth so Finch may well be pushed up the order to open the batting alongside New Zealander Martin Guptill, which makes him a prime candidate to lead the way with the bat.
