Melbourne Renegades v Adelaide Strikers preview

Adelaide Strikers could sneak into the Big Bash playoffs if they beat Melbourne Renegades in their final league fixture and bookmakers expect a tight contest between two inconsistent teams.

The Strikers are evens for an away win over the Renegades, who looked set for a damaging wide-margin defeat against Perth Scorchers on Sunday.

Chasing 213 for victory, the Renegades fell ten runs short after a late onslaught from Aaron Finch helped them take 57 runs off the last three overs.

Another veteran batsman, Shaun Marsh, had got the run-chase off to a bright start with 54 off 34 balls featuring seven fours and a six.

However, a chance should be taken on all-rounder Will Sutherland top-scoring for the Renegades, as he did with 40 in a low-scoring defeat to Hobart Hurricanes on Christmas Eve.

He repeated the feat against Sydney Thunder last week, smashing 42 not out from just 23 balls, and he has been striking the ball as well as any of his teammates this season.

The 23-year-old's lowly position in the batting order is factored into his price but he doesn't need long to make an impact, as demonstrated by his 31 off 14 balls in the first game against the Strikers on January 10.
