Northern Superchargers battered Manchester Originals by 69 runs in the only completed meeting between the regional rivals in The Hundred last year but little separated the teams in the final standings.

While the Superchargers finished fifth, the Originals were just one point and one place behind them and both will be hoping for better in 2022.

This time the Superchargers should at least have more consistency in the changing room with Faf du Plessis set to captain the side, having supposed to have done so last season before being ruled out for the tournament due to a concussion.

Ben Stokes took the reins for a couple of games before his time away from the game left all-rounder David Willey in charge for the remainder of the season.

This year Du Plessis will be key at the crease as will English talent Harry Brook, who has had a busy year.

Brook was underwhelming in the Big Bash League in Australia but made his Twenty20 international debut for England against the West Indies back in February and still remains a star of franchise cricket.

He helped Lahore Qalandars win the Pakistan Super League earlier this year, striking an unbeaten 41 in the final, and he piled on 436 runs for Yorkshire Vikings in the T20 Blast.

There is no reason he cannot carry that form into The Hundred and he is a good bet to score at least 20 runs in his side's opener with Manchester Originals at Old Trafford.
