Lankans can't be written off in Galle

Herath hoping to upset favourites India

First Test
Starts 5.30am Wednesday

Sri Lanka’s preparations for the first Test against India were disrupted by the resignation of captain Angelo Mathews and a bout of pneumonia suffered by his successor Dinesh Chandimal.

Spinner Rangana Herath will lead the Lankans, who had to chase down 388 to beat Zimbabwe by four wickets in a one-off Test earlier this month, and India are 10-11 favourites in Galle.

However, Sri Lanka have won their last four Test matches in the shadows of Galle Fort, including a thumping victory over Australia last year and a brilliant comeback win against India in 2015.

At 15-2, the hosts are worth a small bet to beat an India side who have had a gruelling couple of months, losing the final of the Champions Trophy in England before a limited-overs series in the Caribbean.

India are without first-choice openers Murali Vijay (wrist) and Lokesh Rahul (viral fever) and they are worth opposing in Galle.

Recommendation
Sri Lanka
