Match preview
Ireland have put in some impressive performances in defeat against a high-quality New Zealand outfit in their three-match ODI series.
The Irish came within a whisker of winning the first game, conceding 20 in the final over to lose by one wicket with just a single ball remaining after 22-year-old Harry Tector had hit 117 for the hosts.
Tuesday's second match was less close as New Zealand secured the series with a three-wicket win, but the Black Caps will expect another test of their mettle.
Ireland opener Paul Stirling has failed to hit his usual heights during this series but he averaged 54.23 in 14 ODIs in 2021 so his quality is not in question.
Stirling is known for his power-hitting, he smashed 40 from 18 balls in a T20 against India recently and 81 from 41 for Birmingham against Yorkshire in the Vitaly Blast only two weeks ago, but he can also play a more measured role and may top the Irish batting card in Dublin.
In Bristol, England’s women are hoping to wrap up an ODI series victory over South Africa.
All-rounder Nat Sciver contributed with both bat and ball in Tuesday's first ODI success as she paired a knock of 55 with bowling figures of 4-59. That wasn’t enough to take home player of the match honours, however, after Emma Lamb’s 102.
Sciver has been in fine form with the bat, with two unbeaten centuries and two fifties in her last six matches in all competitions, and at the prices she could be worth siding with to lead the way for the hosts.
