Here is a look at the ten teams competing in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League...

Mumbai Indians 9-2

Star player: Rohit Sharma

Performance in 2021: 5th

Five-time champions but failed to reach the playoffs last year and the loss of Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult will do them no favours.

Delhi Capitals 11-2

Star player: David Warner

Performance in 2021: Playoffs

Finished top of the regular-season standings in 2021 before losing to Chennai in the qualifiers and will likely be stronger as the new campaign progresses when David Warner and Lungi Ngidi are available.

Royal Challengers Bangalore 13-2

Star player: Virat Kohli

Performance in 2021: Playoffs

Progressed to the playoffs last year before being dumped out in the eliminator but have plenty of experience in their ranks with Kohli and new captain Faf du Plessis.

Punjab Kings 7-1

Star player: Mayank Agarwal

Performance in 2021: 6th

Losing KL Rahul was a big blow but it should not take much to better last season's disappointing sixth-place finish.

Rajasthan Royals 8-1

Star player: Jos Buttler

Performance in 2021: 7th

Fresh from a great auction, the new-look Royals should be considered serious playoff contenders with the pace bowling of Trent Boult and dangerous spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Ashwin in their ranks.

Chennai Super Kings 8-1

Star player: Ruturaj Gaikwad

Performance in 2021: Winners

The defending champions have seen their price inflate after losing Du Plessis and Shardul Thakur but should not be underestimated.

Kolkata Knight Riders 10-1

Star player: Shreyas Iyer

Performance in 2021: Runners-up

Dinesh Karthik and Lockie Ferguson could prove to be key losses and bookmakers do not fancy the Knight Riders to build on last year's run to the final.

Gujarat Titans 11-1

Star player: Hardik Pandya

Performance in 2021: N/A

The new boys should cause a stir but it remains to be seen how Pandya will operate as captain and depth could be a problem.

Lucknow Super Giants 12-1

Star player: KL Rahul

Performance in 2021: N/A

Like Gujarat, the Super Giants could be in trouble if their squad is unsettled by injuries or Covid but as long as there's Rahul, there's hope.

Sunrisers Hyderabad 16-1

Star player: Kane Williamson

Performance in 2021: 8th

Basement boys last year and expected to struggle again following the loss of big batsman Warner.
