Indian Premier League 2022: Dates, fixtures, venues
The 2022 Indian Premier League will take place from March 26 to May 29 and the 70 league matches will be held in four venues: the Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and the MCA International Stadium in Pune.
Venues for the playoff matches will be decided at a later date.
What is the 2022 Indian Premier League format?
There is a new format for the 2022 Indian Premier League with the ten teams being divided into two virtual groups:
Group A Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants
Group B Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans
Each team plays a total of 14 league matches: two against every other team in its group, two against a random team in the other group, and once against the other four teams in the other group.
The top four teams from the league stage of the tournament qualify for the playoffs.
What happened in the Indian Premier League last year?
In the 2021 Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings won their fourth title thanks to a 27-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the final in Dubai.
Chennai batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was the leading runscorer in the tournament with 635 runs and Bangalore bowler Harshal Patel was named player of the series.
