Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Stars preview

Time is running out for the Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars to click into gear with the Big Bash season now past the midway point and the playoffs fast approaching.

The Stars prop up the standings and have won just once since beating the Hurricanes in Week One. And Hobart haven't fared much better with three wins from eight outings.

Adelaide Strikers' recent struggles mean that making the top five is still in reach for both franchises, and of the two there has been more promise in Hobart's performances, especially with the bat.

Despite their inconsistent season, the Canes have arguably one of the most powerful batting units in the BBL and they should have beaten the Strikers in their last home outing when a 229-4 first-innings totals should have been well out of reach.

If their bowlers can come to the party soon then there is still life in Hobart yet, though, and their top order certainly has the potential to pile the pressure on a Stars outfit who have comfortably lost five of their last six matches.
