Pakistan bowled out England for 297 on the first day of the third Test at Edgbaston but bookmakers reckon that could be a competitive first-innings total for the hosts.

England were 4-7 favourites before the toss and ended the day at the same price despite being reduced to 158-5 in Birmingham.

Gary Ballance – 8-1 with Ladbrokes to top-score for England – made a valuable 70 and 25-1 shot Moeen Ali threatened to overhaul Ballance before he was ninth out for 63.
