Third T20 preview

England lost their first two Twenty20 series of the year against the West Indies and India and South Africa are 11-8 to complete the hat-trick in the decisive third T20 at the Rose Bowl.

Putting runs on the board has been the key to success in the first two games. England ran out comfortable winners in Bristol on Wednesday when Jonny Bairstow's 90 and a blistering Moeen Ali half-century set South Africa a victory target of 235.

A day later in Cardiff, the Proteas bounced back, racking up 207-3 and bowling out England for just 149 in 16.4 overs.

England's patchy T20 performances are concerning given that they are building towards the 20-over World Cup in Australia this autumn and skipper Jos Buttler will be keen to lead from the front.

The scratchy form of opening partner Jason Roy may be affecting Buttler's game but the recently-appointed white-ball captain has played a couple of ominous cameos in the first two games.

He cracked 22 from the first six balls he faced in Bristol before holing out off Lungi Ngidi and hit three sixes in a 14-ball 29 at Sophia Gardens.

Buttler was out first ball against India in this month's T20 international at the Rose Bowl but his previous four 20-over scores at the Hampshire venue were 77 not out, 44, 73 not out and 27 and he is a solid favourite to top-score for the hosts.

South Africa opener Reeza Hendricks started the series with a miserable record of 41 runs in six T20 innings against England but he has shown his quality with knocks of 57 from 33 balls and 53 off 32 in the first two matches.

It took a superbly judged boundary catch from Jonny Bairstow to get rid of Hendricks in Cardiff on Thursday and the opener should be backed to exceed BoyleSports' runs line of 19.5.
