It’s still early days in this year’s Indian Premier League but having won just one of their opening four games Bangalore and Delhi will be conscious of the need to pick up victories sooner rather than later.

For all the array of batting talent that Bangalore have in their ranks, the Royal Challengers’ struggles are not an isolated occurrence. Bangalore finished bottom of the table last season, winning just three of their 14 games.

Virat Kohli’s side regularly go off favourites for matches and do so again against Delhi but four wins in 18 IPL outings would suggest taking them on is a worthwhile strategy.

For all their batting might, they have lacked penetration and variation with the ball.

Delhi lie bottom of the table on run rate at but they have performed better than the bare form suggests and their win over Mumbai, when they chased down 195 for the loss of only three wickets reads particularly well.

Two-time winners Kolkata have made a decent start in their bid to be crowned IPL kings again and are 8-11 to record a fourth win of the campaign against Kings XI Punjab at Eden Gardens.

Led by the explosive hitting of West Indian Andre Russell, Kolkata have been particularly impressive with the bat in this year’s tournament, chasing down 177 and 163 in two of their wins and scoring 200 on two other occasions.

In those five matches they have hit a total of 51 maximums and the sixes could rain if their batsmen fire again.

Backing over 7.5 Kolkata sixes makes some appeal.
