Yorkshire put themselves into the County Championship title mix with a dramatic victory over champions Surrey in Scarborough last week.

The White Rose county bowled Surrey out with just ten balls of the match remaining to move up to third in the table, 36 points behind leaders Somerset.

Next up for the Tykes are the side directly above them in the table, Essex, and bookmakers look to have underestimated their chances of success at Chelmsford.

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj took six wickets on his Yorkshire debut in that success and while their batting can still be flaky, Yorkshire's bowling unit is extremely solid with the new-ball partnership of Ben Coad and Duanne Olivier supplemented by dependable skipper Steve Patterson, David Willey and, for the next two Championship games, Maharaj's canny off-spin.

Essex's win at Nottinghamshire last time out was their fifth in six games but this could be their hardest test to date and Yorkshire have to be the best at 6-4.

In Division Two, Lancashire, one of only two undefeated teams in the section, are warm favourites to win at Northamptonshire and move above surprise leaders Glamorgan at the top of the table.

Recommendation
Yorkshire
1pt 6-4 general
