Preview

Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades were the two worst teams in the 2021-22 Big Bash League, so it's no surprise that they have been busy trying to bolster their squads in this season's draft .

The Heat have named star recruit Usman Khawaja as captain ahead of Jimmy Peirson, and although losing Chris Lynn to the Adelaide Strikers is a big blow, the additions of Colin Munro, Sam Billings and Sam Hain provide them with a steady top order.

With Renegades’ number one pick Liam Livingstone pulling out of the tournament, they look less convincing with Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill, Andre Russell and Shaun Marsh all perhaps past their peak.

So with their opening batters needing to rediscover some form they may take some time to gel as a side and their bowling attack could be reliant on Kane Richardson.

With that in mind, the Melbourne franchise, who lost ten of their 13 completed matches last season, may start this campaign as they ended the last one with a defeat.
