Match preview

Brisbane Heat's hard-hitting top order struggled against some canny slow-bowling from Sydney Thunder in their opening game, slipping to a 29-run defeat, and they may come unstuck against a high-class Melbourne Stars bowling attack.

The Stars had the trophy in their grip last season before a shocking collapse in the final but they should go well again this term with the all-round talents of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Coulter-Nile and wicketkeeper Peter Handscomb giving the side a nice balance.

Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Sixers

Where to watch

Match preview

Sydney Sixers made a magnificent start to their campaign, bowling out Perth Scorchers for just 131 on their way to an eight-wicket victory with six overs to spare.

However, the Sixers are outsiders for the trip to Hobart Hurricanes, who topped the regular-season table last year with D'Arcy Short and Matthew Wade forging a prolific opening partnership.

Wade is absent on Australia Test duty but veteran George Bailey looks a tempting price to top-score for the hosts, having made 363 runs from 244 balls in the 2018-19 tournament.

Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Thunder

Where to watch

Live on BT Sport 1, 8.10am Thursday

Best bet

Sam Harper top Melbourne Renegades runscorer

Match preview

Melbourne Renegades start the defence of their Big Bash title against a Sydney Thunder side buoyed by a promising opening victory over Brisbane Heat.

The Renegades produced a stunning fightback to deny city rivals the Stars in last term's final and they look a solid unit under Australia's white-ball skipper Aaron Finch.

Finch is as short as 13-8 to top-score in the Renegades' first game but the value lies with opening partner Sam Harper, who finished as the champions' leading batsman with 341 runs at a healthy strike-rate of 139.75.
