Third Test continues on Sky Sports Cricket, 11am Monday

England are 1-14 to win the third Test against South Africa and take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series after maintaining their stranglehold on day four at The Oval.

Joe Root’s side need to claim six wickets in the 98 overs scheduled to be bowled on Monday because of all the time lost to rain in south London, after reducing the Proteas to 117-4 in their second innings in pursuit of 492.

Dean Elgar resumes on 72 and Temba Bavuma on 16. At stumps, Hills had their 5-6 fall of next wicket-line at 142.5 and their 5-6 innings-total line at 252.5.

The Proteas are 8-1 to hold out for a draw with no rain forecast for the Kennington venue and 150-1 to smash successful Test-chase records to smithereens.

Root had earlier declared the Three Lions’ second innings on 313-8 to bring about tea. Jonny Bairstow top-scored with 63. Root and Tom Westley also hit fifties.
