Scott Quigg v Jono Carroll preview

Fireworks are expected at the Manchester Arena, where former world champion Scott Quigg faces Irish contender Jono Carroll over 12 rounds at super-featherweight in a fight neither can afford to lose.

Quigg is back with Joe Gallagher after returning from America, where he had been training under Freddie Roach, while injury problems have kept him out of the ring for over a year - this fight was originally scheduled for the Anthony Joshua v Andy Ruiz undercard in Saudi Arabia in December but Quigg was forced out with a recurring elbow problem.

He says he is now fully fit, and if he is then he has the power and pedigree to beat Carroll, but it won't be an easy night.

Quigg has a wealth of experience to fall back on and his only two defeats have been in close fights against established world champions, losing to Carl Frampton via split decision in 2016 and on points in a brutal fight against Oscar Valdez two years ago when Quigg broke Valdez's jaw.

Carroll's only defeat was also in a world title fight - he lost to Tevin Farmer on points last year but gave the American plenty to think about.

Carroll is known for his speed and work rate, but despite the nickname King Kong he doesn't carry the power normally associated with the massive movie monster - just three KOs from 19 pro fights won't scare Quigg.

The Irishman will push Quigg all the way and will have his moments, but Quigg is the better fighter and if he is injury-free he can do enough to impress the judges.

Undefeated super-middleweight Zach Parker is 3-10 to beat Australian Rohan Murdock on the undercard, which also sees Tyson Fury's cousin Hughie Fury take on Pavel Sour at heavyweight and Robbie Fowler's cousin Anthony Fowler fight Theophilus Tetteh at super-welterweight.
