Fight preview

Lewis Ritson takes on Robbie Davies Jr in a terrific domestic dust-up in Newcastle and at 2-1 the Sandman looks great value to win by knockout.

Ritson made rapid progress through the lightweight ranks and claimed the British title after stopping Robbie Barrett in 2017. The Newcastle puncher successfully defended the Lonsdale belt against Joe Murray, Scott Cardle and Paul Hyland, winning those fights by knockout, before unsuccessfully challenging for the European title against the classy Francesco Patera.

The Sandman has since made the step-up to welterweight but should still carry enough power to cause Davies problems.

Liverpool man Davies was stopped by Michal Syrowatka in 2017 and although he avenged that defeat and has since beaten Glenn Foot, Joe Hughes and Michal Dufek there were definite signs of vulnerability to power, particularly against Foot, and Ritson is on another level to those opponents.

The Sandman has 19 wins, 12 by ko, on his record and he looks ready to get the home crowd in a spin by stopping Davies Jnr.

Ted Cheeseman and Scott Fitzgerald clash in another quality fight and the 2-1 on offer underates the chances of Cheeseman.

There's no doubt that Fitzgerald has the superior skills as he showed by outdoing the work rate of Anthony Fowler to claim the WBA international super-welterweight title in March.

However, Fowler hadn't had a proper test as a pro and it wasn't as if Fitzgerald totally dominated the Liverpool fighter.

The Big Cheese was steaming through any opponent put in front of him, before his progress stalled when challenging for the European title against Sergio Garcia, but Fitzgerald's dedication remains questionable and the Bermondsey boy will expose any shortcomings.
