Fight preview

Former world champions Keith Thurman and Mario Barrios square off at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Thurman is returning from a near three-year break and it's tricky to know how much the one-time unified welterweight king has left to offer. The Florida fighter was last seen when losing to an aged Manny Pacquiao in July 2019 and prior to that he laboured to a points victory over Josesito Lopez.

Those are the only two bouts One Time has contested since he beat Danny Garcia in 2017, which hardly makes you want to rush to take the 4-7 on offer about a Thurman victory.

Barrios has questions to answer himself. The Texan is having his first fight in the welterweight division and he lost his unbeaten record against Gervonta Davis last year. El Azteca is the younger and fresher boxer but there are doubts about the step up to 147lbs.

There are many uncertainties, but we do know that Barrios wasn't a particularly heavy-hitter in the super-lightweight division and you have to go back to 2013 to find the last time Thurman stopped an opponent. Backing the fight to go the full 12 rounds at 4-5 looks the play.
