Fight preview

Former four-weight world champion Roman Gonzalez clashes with Julio Martinez in San Diego and it should be a terrific tussle.

Gonzalez was due to face Juan Francisco Estrada in a highly-anticipated trilogy fight, but Estrada was forced to pull out of the contest and WBC flyweight Martinez has stepped up at short notice.

Chocolatito has been a superb performer but this will be his 54th professional fight and he may have to give way to the fresher fighter.

The Nicaraguan was on the wrong end of a split decision against Estrada last time and he also suffered back-to-back defeats against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai a few years ago. Those are the two best performers Gonzalez has mixed it with of late and Chocolatito has come up short in all three of those bouts.

Gonzalez has plenty of miles on the clock, he has been involved in many tough battles and at this stage of his career he could be vulnerable to a fighter of Martinez's class.

El Rey is all action and there will be no hiding place for either fighter when they get it on. The Mexican may just have that little bit more speed, freshness and punch resistance and El Rey can win this cracking contest by stoppage.
