Fight preview
If unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr is to compete in a blockbuster fight with either Terence Crawford or Manny Pacquiao next year as is being suggested, the WBC and IBF champion must put on a sparkling show this weekend to prove he is still among the elite.
After beating Shawn Porter in a unification clash 15 months ago, Spence was involved in a serious car crash. He makes his long-awaited return to the ring in the early hours of Sunday morning.
There are questions to answer for one of the most exciting and talented boxers on the planet and he steps back into the ring with a dangerous opponent to get those answers.
Spence should be applauded for jumping back in at the deep end and fighting WBC world number two Danny Garcia, he could have been forgiven for taken a tune-up fight to prepare, but he returns to action in his home state of Texas in front of a crowd at the AT&T Stadium.
The mere fact Spence is happy to compete at such a high level and on such a grand stage is a sign of his confidence and it must be presumed that the slick southpaw is in great shape.
Punters will remember the dismantling of Kell Brook at Bramall Lane back in 2017 - Spence is a dangerous, versatile and classy operator in the ring.
Garcia has lost two of his last five, both losses coming on the judges' scorecards to Porter two years ago and Keith Thurman in 2017.
This is a jump back up in class and a fight he is again expected to come up short in. Spence is likely to fight smartly and keep Garcia at range, just as he did in fights with Porter and Mikey Garcia last year when winning on points.
As a former US Olympian and winner of the Golden Gloves, Spence has the technical ability to score at will and is a strong selection to get the decision.
British light-heavyweight star Anthony Yarde headlines a BT Sport card at Church House in London on Saturday night and is another favourite fancied to oblige.
He tackles the undefeated Lyndon Arthur in a bout expected to be more competitive early on than the outright betting suggests. But Yarde can get on top and earn the stoppage late on in the 12-round contest.
