World title aspirations are on the line when John Ryder and Danny Jacobs get it on at Alexandra Palace on Saturday night.

Jacobs is a former two-time middleweight world champion and the New York fighter has mixed it with some of boxing’s leading lights. Miracle Man has been in with Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, and neither of those two ferocious punchers could stop Jacobs hearing the final bell.

The only other defeat on the Brooklyn boxer’s card came in his first world title fight against Dmitry Pirog in 2010.

Jacobs didn’t look great when outpointing Gabriel Rosado at super-middleweight last time out, but it’s a little too early to write off the American. Miracle Man’s motivation for this fight has to be taken on trust and he is fighting away from home. However, if Jacobs is anywhere near his best, there is no way he is a 4-6 shot.

Ryder is a likable and talented performer and he deserved to get the decision against Callum Smith in 2019. The Gorilla is a proven super-middleweight performer and you can be sure of maximum effort and will from the Islington man.

However, Ryder has been beaten by Rocky Fielding and Jack Arnfield and Jacobs is a cut above those opponents.

The Gorilla doesn’t carry huge one-punch power, and if Jacobs is up to speed, it’s hard to see how he can outbox the American. It seems likely that Ryder will try to pressure Miracle Man early on and he may have some joy. However, Jacobs is likely to take control as the fight goes on and he looks a cracking bet to see off a spirited opponent.
