Callum Smith headlines Saturday's card from the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. The Merseysider, the WBA world and diamond and Ring Magazine super-middleweight champion, should get the better of mandatory challenger John Ryder.

This is a homecoming defence for 29-year-old Smith, who has fought in Nuremberg, Jeddah and New York in his last three fights and he is expected to come through unscathed.

Since beating George Groves in Jeddah last year to win the World Boxing Super Series, potential mega-fights with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Billy Joe Saunders and Gennady Golovkin have all been mooted for next year and Smith will need to put on a show, not only for his fans but also to help his case for one of those huge bouts.

This is not a first visit to Liverpool for Londoner Ryder, who fought there in 2017 when losing a tight split decision to Rocky Fielding.

Since then, Ryder, known as The Gorilla, has been on a brilliant knockout run to earn himself a shot at Smith, but he is taking a step up in class and surrenders height, reach and size to a man many regard as the best super-middleweight on the planet.

Ryder will no doubt look to get busy and work on the inside, but Smith can meet him head on and show superior skills aided by his sublime footwork to get a stoppage in the second half of the fight.

Another boxer looking to put on show is WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, whose rematch with 40-year-old Cuban Luis Ortiz takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The first fight in March last year was entertaining and one in which both men were hurt before Wilder steamed through Ortiz in the tenth round.

Wilder has since drawn with Tyson Fury and obliterated fellow American Dominic Breazeale with a brutal first-round knockout.
Expect another early stoppage from the Bronze Bomber, who is likely to get after Ortiz early on.
