Five-time Group winner, mostly on the continent; had wind surgery after losing his way towards the end of 2020 and he's been back in good form this year, chasing home Solid Stone in Windsor Listed race before bagging a similar event at Goodwood (1m2f, soft) 24 days ago.

Grand servant for Jim Goldie and added to his very good recent record in the mud when overhauling Sangarius (Fox Tal third) in Group 3 Brigadier Gerard at Sandown (1m2f) 19 days ago; a 5lb penalty and quicker ground are reasons to oppose him this time.

Just hung on to win 1m6f Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy at Meydan in February but tailed off in 2m Group 1 there in March; this is the first time he's raced short of 1m3f; cheekpieces on first time; drawn widest; others are much more obvious.

Enhanced good Epsom record when chasing home easy winner Blue Cup over 1m2f (good to soft) 11 days ago; 10lb better off at the weights with that one now but it still may not be enough to turn the tables; tricky draw.

Second favourite for this last year but could finish only sixth; made a fine return from a gelding operation when narrowly denied in 1m2f Chester handicap but not in the same form when well-held third to Euchen Glen in Brigadier Gerard at Sandown since; quirky sort; others preferred for win purposes.

Lightly raced 5yo who took his form up another notch when making a successful return from gelding and wind operations in 1m2f Chelmsford handicap 47 days ago, in the process taking his AW record to an impressive 4-5; worth his place at a higher level but he's beaten only one home in his two attempts on turf; cheekpieces go on for the first time.

Big improver last season, including Leopardstown Group 3 success on good; third in a German Group 1 and runner-up in Group 2 Prix Dollar at Longchamp later in the campaign; fine return to action when narrowly denied in 1m2f Curragh Listed race 13 days ago, travelling powerfully but worn down late on; fast ground would be an unknown (raced on only good or softer) but he's the only Listed/Group winner in this line-up who isn't saddled with a penalty and he holds leading claims at the weights.

Has developed into a smart performer for this yard, including splitting Forest Of Dean and Father Of Jazz in Group 3 Winter Derby at Lingfield (1m2f) in February; also showed he can do it on turf when excellent third to Lord North in 1m1f Meydan Group 1 (good) in March; needs considering.

Missed 2020 but has made up for lost time on AW this year, beating Felix and Father Of Jazz to win the Group 3 Winter Derby at Lingfield (1m2f) in February; respectable third (Palavecino second) in Easter Classic back at Lingfield since; progressive on turf in 2019 so should be as effective back on the grass; will need a big career best to defy his 5lb penalty, though.

Took his form up a notch when seeing off Stormy Antarctic to win 1m Windsor Listed race (good to soft) five weeks ago; hard to know whether racing alone against the stands' rail in the final 4f gave him an advantage but he's credited with improvement for now; has won over 1m2f; respected.

Improved in leaps and bounds on AW over the winter, winning three times before third to Forest Of Dean and Felix in Group 3 Winter Derby at Lingfield (1m2f); however, he didn't carry over his progress when down the field in 1m Doncaster Listed race on return to turf in March; gelded since.

Largely progressive profile for this yard; big eyecatcher on Epsom reappearance in April; pulled too hard at York next time but he was a lot more relaxed with a hood fitted (retained here) when back to form with a bang and easily seeing off Victory Chime and seven others at Epsom (1m2f, good to soft) 11 days ago; capable of making his mark outside handicaps on that evidence.

Fifth in last year's 2,000 Guineas but he hasn't quite been able to reproduce that form, including when fourth in Hampton Court over C&D at 2020 Royal meeting; faded into a below-par sixth when reappearing in 1m Doncaster Listed race, on first run since being gelded, and off a further 12 weeks since (has had wind surgery); others hold more solid claims.

RACING POST TIP

Patrick Sarsfield
The Joseph O'Brien-trained PATRICK SARSFIELD is selected to take full advantage of escaping a penalty for last summer's Leopardstown Group 3 success. His close, strong-travelling second in a Curragh Listed event 13 days ago suggests he's returned in good form and he's preferred to Felix, who transferred all of this year's AW improvement to turf when third to Lord North in a Meydan Group 1 in March. Blue Cup, so impressive in an Epsom handicap last time, and Windsor Listed scorer Solid Stone complete the shortlist.
