Easily best RPR was debut win at Kempton (5f); well beaten in Listed races on good ground at York (race won by Betty Clover) and heavy at Chantilly; blinkers are now turned to and she's readily passed over.

Modest form when edging home in four-runner race at Lingfield (5f, AW) and the ground was heavy when close up in French Listed race last time; even if she can repeat that form on this ground she's likely to prove very vulnerable.

Dominic Ffrench Davis' former assistant takes over from him as her trainer; she brings an unblemished record and has track form, having won here (good to soft) before beating the runner-up again in a Listed race at Sandown (soft); that latest effort can be upgraded as she was on the back foot after missing the break and did well to win at all; respected.

75,000euros yearling; mixed messages as to the strength of her debut win over C&D (good) but there was a lot to like about how she rolled up her sleeves late on to prevail by a head and she should come on for that initial experience; her dam won this race in the same colours 18 years ago.

Both runs over 5f on good; entered a thousand notebooks on debut at Newmarket where she got behind (carried left early) before flashing home for sixth behind Amestris and Seraphim Angel; confirmed that promise when playing with the opposition over C&D last month (made all) and the runner-up won an Italian Listed race next time; well regarded and lots to like.

Looks a better filly now than when beaten by Betty Clover at Bath and she conceded early ground and a penalty to subsequent winner Where's Clare last time at Carlisle (5f, good to firm; other runs on good), lowering the juvenile course record in the process; clearly very useful and there's more to come no doubt; it remains to be seen whether stall 1 will be a help or hindrance.

On the strength of her debut second at Newmarket (Seraphim Angel and Miss Rascal behind) she was entitled to win at Lingfield (5f, good) and duly did so with the minimum of fuss; her Topspeed figure is right up there in today's field and she's by no means dismissed from what could be a beneficial draw.

Beat Englemere on debut and doubled her tally with an improved display at York (5f, good) where she came from off the pace to floor Miss Lamai; that Listed race is rarely strong or influential when the form is represented at Group level, but she's a likeable type.

Created a good impression on her debut at Thirsk (5f, soft; runner-up then finished second to Miss Rascal here before winning an Italian Listed race) and was fine on the good ground at York (Listed) where she was in the firing line throughout before conceding late on to Betty Clover; has each-way claims, though some late hanging in both her races didn't go unnoticed.

No match for Truly Enchanting at Tipperary (5f, soft) but inexperience appeared to hold her back in the closing stages and today's quicker ground could be preferable; this asks a lot of a maiden but she is a likely improver.

All three runs in Scotland or north of England; twice beaten over 5f before justifying favouritism on the step up to 6f at Carlisle (good) in a maiden she was fully entitled to win; this demands so much more, especially back at 5f.

£100,000 yearling who is bred for speed; slow starts were a feature in both her races (5f, good to firm) but still won at Thirsk before being narrowly denied by a 125-1 newcomer in Beverley's Hilary Needler after a troubled run brought on by herself; has to improve again to trouble the best of these and another laboured start won't help the cause.

75,000gns yearling and bred to be precocious; it wasn't a strong maiden that she won at Naas (5f, good; tongue tied) but it was all very straightforward as she eased clear from some way out and this has been the plan ever since; there seems to be plenty of confidence behind her.

£68,000 breeze-up buy; acquitted herself admirably in face of a tough debut task in Listed race at York (5f, good), outpaced before finding plenty to finish within 2l of the principals; should improve and, with today's stiffer track another likely positive, she's not without hope of reversing placings with Betty Clover and Miss Lamai; has many others to worry about, however.

By star sprinter Blue Point and out of a 7f 2yo winner; quickened past two breeze-up recruits to win comfortably at Yarmouth (5f, good to soft) and winning jockey James Doyle reported afterwards that quicker ground would suit; difficult to gauge what she achieved (second well held since) but the dam's side of her pedigree suggests she can improve with time.

Her dam stayed beyond 1m but the sire instills plenty of speed into her pedigree; a winning debut appeared unlikely when under the pump some way out at Tipperary (5f, soft) but she found loads for pressure to beat Oxford Rock by an increasing margin at the line; a smart RPR bodes well and, as the chosen one from Ballydoyle's initial entries, she commands considerable respect.

Probably beaten by a smart colt from Ballydoyle at the Curragh (6f, good) and she looked a threat before flattening out late on; looks to have the raw speed for 5f and she's since been snapped up by high-profile owners; could be a lively one for a yard that won this in 2021.

£190,000 breeze-up buy; this is a quick turnaround from Nottingham (5f, good to firm) two weeks ago but she carried plenty of confidence in the market and won comfortably from a prominent position; respected, for all that the second performing so moderately at York last Friday casts a cloud over the form.

Bought for £420,000 at a breeze-up sale; made debut nine days ago when a beaten favourite at Windsor (6f, good to firm); showed plenty of early speed to be handy throughout before wilting late on; this is a big ask after that defeat.

An imposing daughter of American Pharoah; Wesley Ward, who has won this four times, was blown away by her work before she breezed home in blinkers over 4.5f at Keeneland in April (fast dirt) and she's reportedly worked as impressively on grass since; possesses the trademark early speed associated with the yard's Royal Ascot runners and has to be of interest.

RACING POST TIP

Miss Rascal
It's a tad unsettling that only one Queen Mary winner has emerged from a single-figure stall in the last decade but MISS RASCAL, from a yard that won this back in 1996, hinted that she might be really smart on her debut and went a long way to confirming that suspicion when easily dealing with a subsequent Italian Listed winner here last month. Course experience is a significant asset at Ascot. This race has so far eluded Aidan O'Brien but Truly Enchanting produced a power-packed finish to win by daylight at Tipperary and debut winners from this yard typically progress to high honours. Make Haste impressed in her first race and she's on the shortlist together with Ultima Grace, Kassaya, Mighty Eriu and Amestris.

What happened in the Queen Mary Stakes last year?

down

There were two groups, with a big advantage to the stands’ side group. CRIMSON ADVOCATE looked set to win well over a furlong out, she was clinging on at the line. Maybe her connections will be tempted to stick her in the Nunthorpe, with York not having the stiff finish of Ascot. Relief Rally was 2-2 coming in, rather found herself following the wrong one (the fifth horse) into the closing stages, and she also had to be switched to the left of the winner to challenge. Beautiful Diamond came in off just a Nottingham maiden win a fortnight earlier, whereas the first two already had two starts. She was beaten fair and square but is reportedly still a bit weak.
