Yorkshire Oaks for Love as O'Brien reveals next target for star filly
Outstanding filly Love will sidestep this weekend’s Juddmonte Irish Oaks and will instead be aimed at next month's Darley Yorkshire Oaks, trainer Aidan O'Brien revealed on Monday.
A brilliant winner of the Qipco 1,000 Guineas and Investec Oaks, Love is as short as 7-2 favourite with some firms for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October, which O’Brien confirmed was the daughter of Galileo's long-term target.
He said: “Love doesn't run this weekend. She is perfect. What we are thinking at the moment is that she is probably going to go straight to York for the Yorkshire Oaks, and then on to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after that.”
Ennistymon will bid to go one better in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh on Saturday, having chased Love home when nine lengths adrift at Epsom. Ennistymon will be joined by Passion, fifth at Epsom, Laburnum and Snow.
O’Brien added: “We are going to run Ennistymon, and Passion, who also ran at Epsom. We're also planning on running Laburnum, who was just beaten in an Oaks trial at Naas, as well as Snow, who won the Oaks trial at Cork.”
On a couple of other notable weekend contenders, O’Brien said: "Merchants Quay will probably run in the Railway Stakes. More Beautiful is going to run in the Airlie Stud Stakes. She seems to be in good form. We took her out of Newmarket last week because the ground got soft, so the plan is to run her this weekend now."
