York to water overnight as ground quickens up during Friday's racing
York will resume watering the track on Friday night for the final day of the Ebor meeting after the going quickened up during racing on Nunthorpe Stakes day.
The ground was changed to good to firm, good in places (from good, good to firm in places) before the Group 1 on Friday, and with a dry night in store, watering will return on the Knavesmire with the course having decided not to water on Thursday night.
The running rails will also be moved again to provide fresh ground from the 1m1f start, with the feature race, the Sky Bet Ebor, due off at 3.35 and the seven-race card beginning at 1.50.
Raceday clerk of the course Anthea Leigh said: "We changed the ground to good to firm, good in places before the Nunthorpe. It was quickening up, but the jockeys said there was still plenty of good in it. We're putting 2-3mm of water on tonight to replace what we lost today.
"The forecast is for a dry day with sunny intervals, similar to today. We are moving the rails over more from the 1m1f to the entrance to the home straight to provide fresh ground."
