Wissahickon 4-9 for first Group success in Saturday's Winter Derby at Lingfield
Wissahickon heads 11 confirmations for the Group 3 Betway Winter Derby at Lingfield on Saturday, for which he is a best-priced 4-9 to extend his unbeaten run to five.
The John Gosden-trained colt has already won twice over course and distance this winter, most recently when giving 3lb and a beating to fellow entry Big Country in the Listed Winter Derby Trial this month.
Wissahickon could be rejoined by stablemate Court House, who finished third that day, in the 1m2f £100,000 contest, in which his main opponent looks to be the Aidan O'Brien-trained Hunting Horn.
Gosden said: "We've had this race in mind for Wissahickon ever since he won the Cambridgeshire last September, and he's won his two prep runs in good fashion.
"Frankie rather left his brain on the plane when flying back from Bahrain to ride him last time and got himself into a pocket in the home straight, but the horse got him out of it.
"He's been training well since then and we'll make a decision about Court House later in the week."
Aidan O'Brien, who has not had a runner in Britain since November, saddled the beaten favourite Clear Skies in the Winter Derby a year ago and will be hoping for better luck with Hunting Horn, who made a pleasing return to action when third in a Grade 3 at Gulfstream Park on Pegasus World Cup day in January.
A best-priced 9-2 chance, Hunting Horn was a winner at Royal Ascot last year when landing the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes, but he has yet to race on the all-weather.
