Willie Mullins reveals hamstring problem for Champion Chase hope Chacun Pour Soi
Willie Mullins has revealed a hamstring problem is what prevented Chacun Pour Soi from taking on Envoi Allen in the Paddy's Rewards Club Chase at Leopardstown on Monday.
The five-time Grade 1 winner was as short as 2-5 to register back-to- back wins in the race but was scratched from the race early on Monday morning due to lameness.
Mullins said: "I asked my vet to give me a layman's term for the injury and he told me it was his hamstring. There could be more to it than that, but that's as much as I know at the minute. We'll have to see how long it takes for that to come back right."
Chacun Pour Soi was generally a 10-1 shot for the Queen Mother Champion Chase in March, for which he was sent off 8-13 favourite last season, but he faces a race against time to be fit for the 2022 edition.
The Champion Chase is the only championship race at the Cheltenham Festival that Mullins has yet to win, but he has another strong contender in 5-2 second favourite Energumene.
Having missed last season's Arkle through injury, Energumene made a smooth transition into open company when winning the Hilly Way Chase at Cork this month.
