Who remains in contention to run in the Welsh Grand National?
Ante-post favourite Quick Wave featured among 26 horses who stood their ground for the Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow (2.50) following the latest confirmation stage on Wednesday.
The Venetia Williams-trained nine-year-old shot to 9-2 favouritism with the sponsors for a race that takes place on December 27 following her impressive win in the London National at Sandown this month.
Fellow leading contenders Ask Me Early and Troytown Chase winner The Big Dog were also left in the race, as was The Galloping Bear, who was stripped of his Grand National Trial victory earlier this year.
Wales's leading hope to pick up a fourth successive win for the home nation is Pats Fancy, who could be one of two runners for trainer Rebecca Curtis and is a 10-1 shot with Coral for victory.
One horse who will not appear is Coral Gold Cup third Gericault Roque, who finished sore following his fine effort in the Newbury showpiece.
His joint-owner Bryan Drew said: "He didn't come out of the Newbury race 100 per cent. He had some soreness that has taken a while to get over.
"We'll have to let him fully recover from Newbury before he runs again and you'd probably say we're working back from the Grand National, but we need to get him 100 per cent first."
Last year's winner Iwilldoit, who was as short as 10-1 for back-to-back victories, was among those taken out.
Also on Chepstow's card, 16 have been entered in the Finale Juvenile Hurdle (1.40), which has been downgraded to Grade 2 status this year, including smart juvenile Scriptwriter.
The Milton Harris-trained three-year-old won a similar contest at Cheltenham's November meeting last time and would be a welcome winner for the trainer, whose stable star Knight Salute was ruled out for the season earlier this month.
Brilliant Tingle Creek Chase winner Edwardstone could face off in a fascinating clash with Nube Negra in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton (2.30) after they both featured among nine entries for the race.
A stunning nine-length victor of the Sandown Grade 1, the Alan King-trained star could bid to strengthen his claims as Britain's leading hope for the Queen Mother Champion Chase in the 2m contest, but may have a formidable opponent in Nube Negra.
The Dan Skelton-trained eight-year-old won the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on his reappearance and may bid to regain his Desert Orchid crown, having beaten Altior in the race in 2020.
Also on Kempton's card, eight have been entered in the Grade 2 Wayward Lad Novices' Chase (1.20), including impressive Ascot winner Thunder Rock and Henry VIII Novices' Chase second Boothill.
