What's on this week: the action heats up at Newmarket's July festival
Monday
A busy enough start to the week with afternoon meetings at Ayr and Worcester before Windsor kicks in for its usual Monday evening slot.
Ripon also races along with Roscommon, where Aidan O'Brien runs Kangaroo Valley, who looks like he will stay forever, in the Listed Lenebene Stakes (8.30).
O'Brien also fields Kells in the 7f maiden ((6.00) – a race the Galileo colt's year-older brother Christmas landed 12 months ago.
Tuesday
The classiest action of the day by far comes courtesy of Pontefract's Listed Weatherbys TBA Pipalong Stakes (3.15), which last year's 1,000 Guineas heroine Billesdon Brook runs in.
Her opponents include 2018 winner Clon Coulis and Wisdom Mind, Joseph O'Brien's first runner at the Yorkshire track.
Wolverhampton and Brighton also race on the Flat, while jumping comes from Uttoxeter and Roscommon.
Wednesday
The middle of the week is perhaps the calm before the storm with fairly low-key meetings at Catterick, Lingfield and Yarmouth followed by Kempton and Bath.
Further afield, Happy Valley is the scene as Zac Purton aims to surpass Joao Moreira's record of 170 winners in a season.
Purton rode six winners at Sha Tin on Sunday, leaving him six adrift of Moreira with just two more meetings to go before the end of the campaign.
Thursday
It is day one of Newmarket's July festival and the feature of a fine bill is the Princess of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes, which can be a bit of a Sir Michael Stoute benefit as he has won it nine times.
The Bahrain Trophy and Tattersalls July Stakes are other contests to note, while Leopardstown also stages Group action with the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Stanerra Stakes.
The 7f fillies' maiden on the card also looks worth watching as entries include a host of unraced types with the right connections and pedigrees.
Friday
The second day of the July festival with the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes, part of the British Champions Series, taking pride of place.
Other noteworthy contests on the card include the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes for fillies and the competitive looking 1m6f bet365 Trophy.
A number of well-bred youngsters for the future are entered in the 7f juvenile maiden and there could well be a number for the notebooks this autumn and beyond with entries from all the big-name yards.
Saturday
The Group 1 Darley July Cup is the highlight of the final day of Newmarket's July meeting. Last year Aidan O'Brien took the prize with US Navy Flag and he has half a dozen entries this time around. Limato, who landed the race two years ago, looks likely to try to repeat that victory.
Burnt Sugar landed the bet365 Bunbury Cup Heritage Handicap on the same card 12 months ago and is among a huge entry of horses competing for the first-prize purse of more than £74,000.
Ascot also race on the same afternoon and the highlight at the Berkshire course is the Group 2 Summer Mile, while York's feature is the John Smith's Diamond Jubilee Cup over 1m2½f, which was formerly known as the Magnet Cup.
Sunday
The Grand Prix de Paris takes centre stage at Longchamp. Won last year by subsequent St Leger hero Kew Gardens, Aidan O'Brien looks set to be represented this time around by Royal Ascot scorer Japan.
A double bill for summer jumping fans to end the week with family racedays at Stratford and Perth, where the main event on the card will be the £20,000 Perth Silver Cup Handicap Chase, which was won last year by 20-1 chance Go West Young Man, partnered by Tabitha Worsley.
