What's on this week: Clan Des Obeaux and Edwardstone among likely stars on show

Monday

Carlisle stages an interesting novice handicap chase (3.20) with three last-time-out winners – Tokay Dokey, Mackenberg and Cornerstone Lad – clashing in a small but select field.

There are also eight races at Fontwell, where in-form trainer Anthony Honeyball sends a strong team, while Wolverhampton provides the evening all-weather action.

Tuesday

Grade 1 winner Slate House ran his best race for a while when second at Wincanton last month, and the blinkers are retained as he carries top weight again in the 2m7f handicap chase (3.00) at Taunton.

There is also a jumps meeting at Market Rasen, with Southwell staging an all-weather fixture in the evening.

Wednesday

The quality and quantity moves up a notch with Fairyhouse, one of five meetings on the day, where the entries for the 3m rated chase (2.15) feature Early Doors, Off You Go and Discorama at the top of the weights.

Ludlow offers good prize-money again, and Not Available could look to get back to winning ways in the 2m4f handicap chase (2.30).

Sedgefield and Fakenham complete the jumping before Kempton's all-weather fixture in the evening.

Thursday

Cheltenham Festival pointers look certain to come in the Sidney Banks Memorial Novices' Hurdle (3.10) at Huntingdon, with Grade 1 Challow Hurdle winner Stage Star featuring alongside the likes of Wonderwall and Elle Est Belle in six entries.

At Thurles, Chester Cup winner Falcon Eight could make his second start over hurdles having finished fifth behind Journey With Me on his debut at Leopardstown over Christmas.

Doncaster stages a series of qualifiers for the Racing Post Go North weekend, with Ffos Las and Newcastle completing the schedule.

Friday

There will be some smart types in action at Kempton where the 3m handicap chase (4.05) is the pick of the races.

In-form trainer Donald McCain has a history of running his best horses at his local track Bangor, and his unbeaten Jungle Jack has been entered for the novice hurdle at 4.15.

Two all-weather meetings round off the day with Southwell in the afternoon and Chelmsford in the evening.

Saturday

The stars always come out to play on Betfair Hurdle day at Newbury, and this week will be no different with two-time King George winner Clan Des Obeaux lined up for the Grade 2 Betfair Denman Chase.

Novices have an excellent record in the Betfair Hurdle and ante-post market leaders Broomfield Burg, JPR One and Knappers Hill fit the profile, while last year's winner Soaring Glory and Metier head the more experienced contenders.

Elsewhere at Newbury, progressive handicapper Editeur Du Gite could step up in class in the Game Spirit Chase.

At Warwick, Britain's leading Arkle contender Edwardstone will look to put down a marker in the Kingmaker Novices' Chase.

Uttoxeter, Lingfield and Wolverhampton are the day's other fixtures.

Sunday

Attention turns to Ireland for the Grand National Trial at Punchestown, with classy novice Run Wild Fred and last year's winner The Big Dog among the early closing entries.

There are two Listed races at Exeter as well as an all-weather card at Southwell to close out the week.
