'We've been scratching our heads' - Inspiral camp bemused by slow Ascot start

Inspiral's connections have been left bemused by her slow start in Saturday's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, but their initial frustration has subsided into quiet anticipation before her 2023 campaign.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained filly was sent off 11-10 favourite for the mile Group 1 but fell out of the stalls and was never able to challenge in a race won by 33-1 outsider Bayside Boy.

Her race was over before it began, according to Cheveley Park Stud's managing director Chris Richardson, and connections were none the wiser on Sunday as to why it happened.
