Wet weather fails to put a dampener on day two of Newmarket showcase

Atrocious weather and the absence of Enable failed to dampen the spirits of racing fans who still turned out in surprising numbers for day two of the 32Red Newmarket open weekend on Sunday.

Twenty-one yards and a number of other equine sites opened their doors to the usual array of visitors from around the country, many of whom had stayed on overnight following racing on the Rowley Mile on Saturday.

The event kicked off a little after 8am on Warren Hill, where there was a healthy turnout for the gallops event despite the driving rain. The conditions affected the number of horses in action, with Sir Michael Stoute's Expert Eye having top billing after John Gosden decided against bringing out his team, which would have been headed by Enable.
