'We're having to be a bit more creative' - staff shortages affecting courses

Redcar has followed Ayr in detailing the difficulty of enticing part-time raceday staff back to work, with the Racecourse Association aware of the staff-shortage challenges facing tracks and the wider hospitality sector since reopening.

The crowd on Ayr Gold Cup day last Saturday was capped at 12,000 due to problems finding staff to work on the big day, and although the situation has not led to a restriction on crowd numbers at Redcar, the North Yorkshire track has experienced similar troubles.

Officials at Redcar have had to be “a bit more creative” in deploying staff to alternative positions to plug the gaps from those who have decided not to return to working at fixtures.
