Darren Weir has set a new Australasian training record for the most winners in a season as Gun Case on Wednesday became his 335th of the year.

The Moonee Valley success saw Weir eclipse the mark set by John Hawkes 13 years ago, with the Melbourne Cup-winning trainer saying he was relieved to finally reach the milestone as he was getting tired of being asked about it.

"Setting records was never part of my plan," Weir told reporters at the Melbourne track. "You don't get to think about it.
