'We wouldn't swap anything' - the day's most eyecatching trainer quotes
The bookmakers endured a torrid third day of Glorious Goodwood with favourites in all three of the Group contests on Thursday obliging. An outsider taking the Galway Hurdle would have done little to soften the blow for the bookies, who will be out to recoup some of their losses on Friday where the racing looks a trickier puzzle to solve for the punters. Here we pick out six key quotes from trainers about their runners.
Friday's racecards|Big-race tips|Watch In The Know
1.50 Goodwood: Coral Goodwood Handicap, 2m4½f
Milton Harris, trainer of Super Superjack:
"He can be a little quirky at the finish, but he's progressive and we're pretty convinced he'll enjoy the trip. His course form is a plus and I'm very hopeful he'll be a big player."
Forecast SP: 13-2
Roger Varian, trainer of Bayside Boy:
"His run in the St James's Palace was good and of the principals he was probably the one who had the least luck in running. He had to wait for a run at a crucial stage, but he finished the race off very strong. If he can reproduce that form he must have a chance. I have no doubt he has a lot more to offer than we have seen this year and I'm hoping we can use this race as a springboard to higher grades."
Forecast SP: 9-4
Clive Cox, trainer of Positive:
"He’s been off for a very long time and surely going to improve for the run, but I’m very happy with him and he’s been training really well. He’s been giving us good vibes in the last few weeks. We held him in really high regard a couple of years ago."
Forecast SP: 40-1
3.35 Goodwood: King George Qatar Stakes, 5f
Nigel Tinkler, trainer of Acklam Express:
"He's a course-and-distance winner and that's always a feather in your cap. He's drawn next to the rail, which is probably the best place to be drawn, so we wouldn't swap anything. I think he's a big price for the form he's shown but he was a bigger price than he should have been at Ascot as well. I'm not saying he'll win but, if he runs to his Ascot form, he is the one to beat."
Forecast SP: 13-2
6.00 Galway: Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase, 2m6½f
John Ryan, trainer of Waitnsee:
"She should run a big race. The horses couldn't be in better form and the Kilbeggan form has worked out well. She's much better over fences than hurdles. I fancy her."
Forecast SP: 10-1
6.35 Galway: Guinness Handicap, 1m4f
Barry Fitzgerald, trainer of Dame Rapide:
"We’re happy with her. She’s going there with a good chance. If she handles the track I think she’ll go very close. I’m happy with the way she came out of the Curragh last time and hopefully she’ll run a good race. Nicer ground should suit her and I’m looking forward to it."
Forecast SP: 10-1
