Reaction among trainers, jockeys and officials was broadly positive as the government announced that £40 million of its initial £300m aid package for sport would be aimed directly at racing.

The cash injection is designed to help major spectator sports in England survive the winter, with around £250m coming in the form of low-interest loans and a further £50m in grants.
