Ado McGuinness hoping to trump last season's earnings with €700,000 Dubai payday
Ado McGuinness is eyeing the "massive prize-money" on offer for stable star A Case Of You in Saturday’s Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint (1.35) at Meydan and admits he has a strong hand in the Irish Lincoln on the same day as the Irish Flat season kicks off at the Curragh.
There is almost €800,000 on offer for first prize in the Al Quoz Sprint, which is more than McGuinness managed to pull in domestically last season despite the fact that he enjoyed his best tally of 32 winners and amassed almost €700,000.
A Case Of You could surpass that tally in one hit on Saturday and McGuinness is quietly confident of making his way back to Ireland with a good chunk of prize-money after last season's Prix de l'Abbaye winner was handed stall 16.
"We got a great draw in 16," McGuinness said. "Being drawn wide is an advantage. The favourite is drawn in 14 and all the good horses seem to be drawn on our side, which is going to suit.
"There will be plenty of pace on. We're very happy. The horse is in great form and I think he'll improve. He breezed on Tuesday morning and went very well.
"He actually had a setback before he ran the last day. He had two quiet days building up to Super Saturday. That's why I think he'll improve.
"Hopefully, we can get a big cheque. There's €700,000 on offer to the winner. I said to Ronan [Whelan] the other day, I could win more on Saturday night than I won in the whole season in Ireland last year, despite the fact I had the best campaign of my life.
"There's €300,000 on offer for coming second. There's massive prize-money. You get more for finishing second here than you do for winning the Abbaye. When you get the right horse, it's worth coming here."
The Paddy Power Irish Lincolnshire (4.16) is the feature race on the Curragh's opening fixture of the year and, along with 2020 winner Bowerman, McGuinness plans on being strongly represented.
He said: "Bowerman won this a couple of seasons back and I'm very happy with him. He got badly jarred in Qatar last year when he won out there, but he's in good form again and I'm very happy with his work.
"Star Of Cashel would have a big chance if he gets in and we've got some others in there who are very classy on their day.
"Saltonstall never runs a bad race and always runs well fresh, Sirjack Thomas is rock-solid and Current Option definitely runs as well. I'm privileged to have a hand like it. The more darts you throw at the board the better chance you have of hitting the target."
