Watering will take place overnight at Newmarket with clerk of the course Michael Prosser aiming to maintain underfoot conditions for the final day of the July festival.

Good to firm ground and a strong tailwind led to six new course records on Friday, though they come with the caveat of being records since the course's race distances were remeasured in 2017.

Clerk of the course Michael Prosser said: "I think the track is in excellent condition. It is drying out with plenty of moisture underneath so the runners are getting loads of spring and energy from the track. It's ideal fast ground conditions.

"The plan is to water the whole course with two to three millimetres. I'm mindful it is not as warm on Saturday and overcast, certainly for the first part of the day, so we need to go in with an element of caution. Two to three millimetres should just do the job."
